My name is Maria Klar, I am Polish, Warsaw-based ceramic creator working primarily with sculptural, organic, and irregular forms. My work includes functional objects such as lighting, tableware, and decorative vessels, trying to combine biomorphic shapes with utility. Each piece is shaped by hand through traditional techniques such as coiling, slab building, and sculpting.
Raios (Portuguese for “sun rays,” but also “wonder”) was created to reflect the fascination with light.
I felt mesmerized by clay for its ability to transform from dust to stone, from raw amorphous material to an object that can be held, felt, and used. My inspiration comes from memories of sand, rock formations, and rough surfaces, rippling water and sunlight. I’m drawn to the flow of water, time, form, and movement, which I try to embody in every ceramic object – often letting the clay lead the way to its final form. Lately, I have been investigating my Polish countryside roots, trying to capture the vague essence of those connections in my work.
